For the entire run of the Ed Sullivan Show from 1947 to 1971, my father was the orchestra's music orchestrator. When I was around eleven until about 16, he began took me to the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York for rehearsals where I collected autographs from some of the stars he worked with. It was a highlight of my childhood. Last week, while vacationing in New York, wife Julie and I swung by the Theater, where Letterman now does his Late Show on CBS. I posed for a photo under the marquee and at the stage door where Dad used to take me to the Sullivan rehearsals. We got to talking with a security guard and he determined I should see the old place again! He got us in for the last fifteen minutes of the taping of Letterman with Steve Martin, then when it was over, he took us back onto the street, through the stage door and on to the stage! We met Paul Schaffer, Alan Kalter the announcer, and posed at Letterman's desk with my wife as "my" guest! Here's the gallery!
