Kimberly and her 95-year-old mother Dottie from Indiana were on vacation on the Gulf Coast. Dottie uses a wheelchair and couldn’t walk in the sand on her own. A lifeguard with the Orange Beach Safety Division spotted Kimberly trying to help Dottie along the beach. The guard offered her a ride in his beach patrol vehicle, then gave her the field office number, so they could call every morning when they were ready to go to the beach.
Every day that week, the lifeguards would coordinate picking them up at the hotel and carrying Dottie to her chair on the beach, and back again at the end of the day.
